The Blueprint Caveman Challenge

Sunday 5th August 2007

The race certainly lived up to it's reputation as a spectacular mid-winter, mountain bike adventure.  The night before the race we had 39mm of rain, so the course was very soggy and muddy.  Fortunately the day was clear and sunny.

Congratulations to Mike Anderson who retained his title last won in 2005.  Tony Hogg led for most of the race, but a wrong turinng close to the finish line let Mike sneak past.  Jon Richadrson was third.  That was Dunedin 1,2,3

Despite the weather the times were fairly similar to previous years. The winning time was 1:57:30.

Sara MacDonald also from Dunedin was first woman home by a long margin.

Two younger cyclists put in excellent rides.  Logan Horn (15 years) from Christchurch completed the course in 4th in a time of 2:08.10.  And not far behind him was Anton Cooper from Woodend in 2:14:55.  Anton finished 8th overall.  He is only 12.  A fantastic ride.

Thank you to all entrants, marshals, REAC and Red Cross, landowners and sponsors.  We would not be able to run the race without their very generous support.  A special mention to Cath and her team of helpers from the cave Pony Club, and to Herb & Sue at the Cave Store (call in sometime and try one of their pizzas) and Kevin & Sue at the Cave Arms Tavern (call in and try some of their refreshments).

Regards

Chris, Jill and Ella from Special Events.
